What Creative Business offers

Wherever your interest in media lies, whether it’s music, film, tv or online media or print, the Creative Business programme prepares you to be a manager in the industry. You can expect a very hands-on approach with workshops and practical challenges giving you a true experience of the media and entertainment industry as you turn ideas into concepts and then into reality. You get to create, record and produce media in our on-campus studios, complete with radio studio, green screens, top-notch camera and audio equipment, as well as the latest design software, so when you hit the creative media industry, you’ll be well ahead of the game.

As your study progresses, you develop a portfolio of your work. It includes the feedback on your productions and your own reflection on the assignment, focusing on what we call Unique Proofs of Learning. And with a coach at your side for academic matters and a mentor checking your well-being and study progress, you’re sure to get the most out of your university degree.

With the 3-year programme, there’s more emphasis on self-study and a more concentrated period of practical experience. The programme also has a set curriculum and the tempo is high – perfectly matching your drive to learn and incentive to develop.

Creative Business in practice

You work on assignments from real companies in each year of the course, collaborating in small groups and coached by lecturers with relevant practical media & entertainment experience. This method of working (Design-Based Education) means you learn to draw on feedback to adapt your ideas and become more flexible, while also developing your teamwork and leadership skills. It also means you get hands-on experience of what it’s like to stand behind and in front of the camera, work on the production of a magazine and delve into the needs of your target audiences.

Our partners in the media industry set assignments for our students and research partners to tackle a real-life problem or create a media concept that can then be rolled out by the company. You could research a company’s business model, develop media concepts, analyse or create a series of podcasts, look into community building, or design and create a special edition magazine.

By the end of your degree, you’ll be ready to take on a position in media or entertainment management, in music management or in the video game business. Whether you work for a company or set up for yourself, this business course will have given you the insights and helped you develop the entrepreneurial skills you need.

Gain international experience

Studying Creative Business at NHL Stenden means spending part of your degree studying abroad. For the 3-year track, this is optional. It will mean that your studies take 3.5 years instead of 3 years. Our participation in RUN-EU means you can join Short Advanced Programmes and carry out projects with partner institutions in Europe. You can also go to one of the NHL Stenden’s Grand Tour locations in South AfricaBali or Thailand. Or you can go on an exchange to a partner institution and delve into a totally new way of studying. With over 100 different minors on offer through NHL Stenden and held at locations all over the world, you're sure to find the perfect specialisation, whether it's Music BusinessVideo Game Business, the Business of PodcastingMedia Concepts & SustainabilityPhotography or Exploring Digital Citizenship.

You can also do your final-year internship abroad drawing from the experience you have gained during your studies. You could work for media companies such as Sony, Netflix, and Vogue or companies with media departments such as Rabobank, Adidas, Ikea and UNICEF. And if you’ve already turned your dream for your own business into a reality, you could consider doing your internship in your own start-up.
